• New Issue - JSAA just published Vol. 14 (1) 2026

  The guest-edited issue 14(1) focused on the professionalisation of academic advising has just been published. The issue contains articles on the academic advising topic, as well as on various key topics in student affairs in Africa, including international students, student mental health and academic competence, first-year experience, student recruitment, and student politics.

• JSAA Migration to UCT and Moratorium on Open Submissions

  After several years of having been hosted by the University of Pretoria Faculty of Education, JSAA is migrating to the University of Cape Town Libraries platform. The process of migration is expected to take several weeks.

  Due to this process and an exceptionally high volume of manuscript submissions in the last 6 months, JSAA will be unable to accept new submissions in 2026. However, submissions in response to calls for papers for specific guest-edited themed issues (which must be made to the corresponding editor of the issue directly) can still be made.

• Enablers and disablers for conducting impactful research in Africa: SARUA Survey

  The Southern African Universities Association (SARUA) is asking for participation in their survey which explores the incentives and barriers for conducting societally impactful research in the SADC region. Even without obvious, explicit or immediate application most research has relation and use to humans’ understanding and application within their contexts. 

  Hence, if you are involved in any way in conducting, managing, regulating, funding or guiding research, please take part in this survey. Your responses will help us develop strategies to support impactful research across national and regional research ecosystems.

  New: Journal of Student Affairs in Africa - Vol. 12(1)

  Student affairs and services practitioners in African higher education are challenged to provide transformative student development and support to a very diverse body of students, and they often do so without the level of resources available to their counterparts in other world regions. This issue of JSAA examines empirically, theoretically, and practically, in a diversity of research articles and reflective practice articles how they achieve their magnificent feat across themes like: cyberbullying, residence management during Covid-19, gender and student preparedness, mental health and coping mechanisms, the role of student organisations in creating belonging and engagement, first generation students in private institutions, redress and transformation work with staff and students, and many other topics.

• New Issue: Towards community-engaged, student-centred universities - Vol. 11 No. 2 (2023) - Journal of Student Affairs in Africa

  It is our great pleasure to announce the publication of a new issue of the Journal of Student Affairs in Africa. Vol. 11(2) entitled "Community-engaged, student-centred universities" is now available open access on the JSAA home platform at the University of Pretoria and will shortly be available from AJOL, Scielo, ERIC and other platforms. Please visit JSAA to read the latest articles.

  This issue of JSAA was made possible in collaboration with Universities South Africa (USAf) and its Higher Education Leadership and Management (HELM) project.
