JoGEA Policies

Focus and scope

The Journal of Geography Education in Africa - JoGEA (ISSN 2788-9114) is an open access, peer-reviewed journal with a focus on Geography and Sustainability Education. We are a journal that promotes the professional development of the field of Geography Education in Africa and we welcome papers from academics, teachers, methodologists, students and all others with an interest in Geography Education. We are especially interested in promoting emerging scholars in our journal.

Editorial Policy

JoGEA strictly complies with the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors by the Committee on Publication Ethics.

Open-access policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

JoGEA Plagiarism Policy

Plagiarism is the unethical and punishable act of presenting another person's intellectual property either published or not, without duly acknowledging the original source and author. JoGEA follows COPE guidelines on plagiarism. Please note that JoGEA uses Turnitin software to screen all submitted manuscripts for originality and similarity. By submitting your paper to JoGEA you are agreeing to originality checks during the peer-review and production processes. Redundancy/ Self-plagiarism without proper citation is also not acceptable. Any manuscript found to be plagiarized is automatically rejected and disallowed from publication in the journal. Affected author(s) are banned from submitting any paper to the journal for 12 months.

JoGEA Repository policy

JoGEA encourages authors to post all versions (preprint, reviewed and published) of their article in institutional repositories or websites without restriction or embargo. Published articles are protected by copyright, and reuse by users is restricted to non-commercial purposes. Users with access to an article through a repository may download a local copy of the article for their personal reference. JoGEA’s repository policy aims to benefit authors as their work can further be cited and referenced (See: The Effect of Open Access).

Authors who publish with JoGEA agree to the following terms:

Authors retain copyright and grant the JoGEA the right of first publication of the work simultaneously licenced under a https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/ that allows others to share the work with an acknowledgement of the work's authorship and initial publication in this journal.

Authors are able to enter into seperate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the journal's published version of the work (e.g. posting it to an institutional repository), with an acknowledgement of its initial publication in JoGEA.

Authros are permitted and encouraged to post their work online (e.g. in an institutional repository or on their website) prior to and during the submission process, as it can lead to productive excahnges, as well as earlier and greater citation of published work (see The Effect of Open Access).
