Abstract

In October 2011, following a successful bid, the city of Cape Town was designated as the World Design Capital (WDC) for 2014. This designation is awarded biennially by the International Council for Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID). The WDC initiative began as an attempt to motivate cities to consider design as a strategic development tool.
